Simone Battle, a member of the girl group G.R.L. and a former contestant on the U. S. version of the X Factor has suddenly died.  She was only 25 years old.

RCA Records along with Simone’s management company Reign Deer Entertainment confirmed the news through a statement issued earlier today.

It read:

We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L. Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.”

Simone rose to fame in 2011 as one of the girls in Simon Cowell’s category on the U.S. X Factor television show.  After the show, she went on to become a member of the Pussycat Dolls before joining G.R.L with four other girls.

Her cause of death is unknown.

As Simone’s family and friends scramble to find out the mystery behind her death, I’m thinking as an insurance professional, ‘I hope Simone had her affairs in order.’  Too many times I see young people passing away without having the proper life insurance in place.

Truth is, most young people rarely consider life insurance at all because they mistakenly think it’s a product that is needed once they get married with children.  Or some think that their parents will handle everything if anything ever happens to them.  Others simply think they are invincible and nothing will ever happen to them.

Here are four top reasons why every young person should have a life insurance policy in place:

#1:  Life insurance will cover your funeral expenses and not put the burden on your parents.  The last thing your parents want to think about is burying a child.  With a policy in place, they don’t have to pick up a collection plate and shamelessly ask the public for funds to bury you.  Further, any bills you may owe, such as student loans, and other debts will be paid off.  If your parents ever signed off on a student loan with you, the debt will be transferred over to them if something tragic happens to you.

#2: It’s cheap while you are young.  The older you get, the more expensive insurance becomes.  However, if you buy permanent life insurance at a young age and at a cheap rate, the rate remains the same, as long as you continue to pay your premiums.  Purchasing life insurance at a younger age also guarantees that you would be eligible for insurance in the future, regardless of changes in your health.

#3: Do you have dependants?  I wrote an article previously on a young father who canceled his life insurance policies, went on vacation, and passed away.  It left his family in a major financial hole.  His family stated that he was under the impression that nothing would ever happen to him. If you have children, parents, or other family members who are dependent upon your income, you may want to ensure that they are well taken care of in case the inevitable occurs.

#4: Leave a legacy behind.  If you’re passionate about a certain cause, life insurance can be used to leave a legacy to your favorite charity.  Or you can use the policy to fund your nieces, nephews or other family member’s futures.

Simone will be sorely missed in the entertainment world, and her family—I can’t even imagine what they are going through right now losing someone so young. Her close friends told E! News, “Simone was full of life. Accomplishing all of her goals and dreams. She was so talented, a star in every sense of the word. I’ve never encountered such fierce drive. You just knew she would be a star, and she was so gracious. It’s hard to grasp she’s gone. She will be incredibly missed.”
