A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in the Sunday night shooting death of a man outside the Rock Harley Saloon on U.S. 41, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Jeffrey Camarda, of 4326 Beaumaris Drive, Land O’ Lakes, was arrested late Monday in a parking lot near State Road 54 and U.S. Highway 41, just south of the bar where investigators say he shot Billy Lee McDaniel, sheriff’s records said.

The sheriff’s office previously stated that McDaniel was shot during an initiation into the Southern Sons Motorcycle Club, but investigators are “backing off” that statement Tuesday afternoon, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Investigators said McDaniel was drinking in the bar’s back parking lot with members of the Southern Sons Motorcycle Club when the shooting occurred.

McDaniel was standing and holding a plastic garbage can over his head, and club members were tossing bottles and cups into the bucket, when Camarda “attempted to shoot the bucket from McDaniel’s head,” a sheriff’s spokesman said in a news release.

Camarda fled the scene after a bullet struck McDaniel in the head, witnesses said.

McDaniel was flown to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he died early Monday, the sheriff’s office said.

Camarda, who went to work Monday morning, was being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail on Tuesday with bail at $250,000. Camarda does not have a criminal history in Pasco, records show.
