American Idol contestant Joanne Borgella passes away at 32

Joanne Borgella, who was a plus size model and an American Idol contestant, passed away today at the age of 32. 

Borgella, announced to her fans in October 2013 that she was battling a rare form of cancer. The beauty shared her journey with her many fans on her Facebook page—posting pictures of herself waiting for test at the doctor’s office, and videos of herself updating the public on her health status.

In April 2014, she shared that she had been suffering from painful headaches.  She admitted herself into emergency care only to find out that her cancer had spread to her brain.  The cancer had previously spread to her chest which she also revealed through a Facebook video. She stated, “It’s been crazy.  It’s very unexpected. I’m 31 years-old. I go to the doctor—I’ve gotten checkups. It’s a rare case because it has spread to my chest.”

Borgella had hope that she would make it through and finally beat cancer.  In her last post on social media outlets she said:

“Goooooood morning!! We are heading back to radiation for 2 procedures!! God is with us!! I have lots to fill you in on.. The presence of the Lord is here..Prayers up!!! I love you guys #GodsGotThis #ThePowerofPrayer #Faith #IWillbeCancerFree2014 #JoanneBorgella.”

Her fans took to social media expressing their condolences on her Facebook page.

In addition to her time on American Idol, Plus Model Magazine noted that Borgella was the first winner of Mo’Nique’s Fat Chance pageant in 2005.  She made it to the top 24 contestants on American Idol’s 7th season, and she was a cast member of Season 2 of Curvy Girls on NUVO TV.  In addition, the beautiful young lady was also signed with Wilhelmina Models.
