About Yolanda Spivey
Yolanda Spivey is the founder of Black Insurance News.  In 2011, after graduating from college, an unemployed Yolanda Spivey searched for jobs within the insurance industry without any success.  She suspected that Blacks, whose unemployment rates were nearly double the nation’s average, were being discriminated against purposely. To prove this theory, she created a fictional employment account on a career website and checked off that her race was white on her profile.  As a result, the fictitious profile, Bianca White, received employment offers, while Yolanda’s profile received none.

Out of frustration, Yolanda Spivey wrote about her experience which has received international attention.  She appeared on various television shows such as Young Turks Show, Fox News, and radio programs such as The Tom Joyner Morning Show and Hot97.  She also started her own insurance brokerage, Michael Whitney & Associates, LLC in hopes of employing herself.  She created Black Insurance News as a way to educate people of color about the insurance industry.

Yolanda Spivey received her B.A. in English/Writing and minor in Women and Gender Studies from William Paterson University. She also has an A.A. degree in Cinema Studies/ Film from Bergen Community College.  She is a fully licensed insurance producer in the states of NY & NJ.  You can reach her for additional information at info@blackinsurancenews.com.
